16:30 – 18:00: Tour del Patrimonio Sostenibile: Esplorando Torre di Porticello con “Night of the Fortresses goes Green”
Unisciti a noi per una visita guidata alla Torre di Porticello, una delle più importanti fortificazioni costiere di Vieste, per scoprire la sua rilevanza storica e gli sforzi attuali per una conservazione sostenibile.
Durante la visita, i partecipanti potranno:
-Scoprire la storia della Torre di Porticello – Costruita come avamposto difensivo contro incursioni saracene e piratesche, la torre faceva parte di un sistema costiero di quasi 400 torri di avvistamento, molte delle quali visibili tra loro. Segnali di fumo di giorno e di fuoco di notte permettevano una comunicazione rapida e a basso impatto: un antico esempio di uso sostenibile delle risorse.
-Approfondire gli sforzi di conservazione – Verranno illustrati gli interventi per preservare siti storici come questo, affinché rimangano accessibili alle future generazioni, mantenendo il loro valore culturale e ambientale.
-Esplorare l’ambiente naturale circostante – Dalla torre si gode una vista panoramica sulla costa di Vieste, offrendo un’occasione per riflettere sul legame tra patrimonio culturale e naturale.

4:30 PM – 6:00 PM: Sustainable Heritage Tour: Exploring Torre di Porticello with Night of Fortresses Goes Green
Join us for a guided tour of Torre di Porticello, one of Vieste’s most significant coastal fortifications, as we explore its historical importance and sustainable preservation efforts.
During the visit, participants will:
-Discover the history of Torre di Porticello – Built as a defensive outpost against Saracen and pirate raids, the tower played a key role in the coastal communication system of nearly 400 watchtowers, most of them within visual contact with one another. Using smoke signals by day and fire signals by night, messages could be transmitted quickly to mobilize defenses. This low-impact method of communication is an early example of sustainable resource use.
-Learn about conservation efforts – Insights into how historical sites like Torre di Porticello are preserved, ensuring they remain accessible to future generations while maintaining their cultural and environmental significance.
