The New Look of the Branič Tower at the Old Town of Dubovac

At the end of 2025, as part of the GIFTSnet project, the interior renovation of the Branič Tower at the Old Town of Dubovac was completed.

The GIFTSnet project is part of the Interreg cross-border cooperation program and focuses on the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage through its integration with sustainable tourism and modern interpretive approaches. The project aims to strengthen cooperation among partners, develop new content, and enhance the visitor experience at cultural and historical sites. Its activities contribute to the preservation and valorization of fortified cultural heritage in a sustainable and inclusive way, connecting partners and stakeholders from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.

The renovation works at Branič Tower began in June 2025 and included:

  • Wall restoration and removal of drywall partitions
  • Hand-applied plaster to achieve the most faithful impression of the original walls
  • Renovation of floor surfaces and installation of parquet flooring
  • Staircase restoration and replacement of joinery
  • Installation of new electrical systems, lighting, fire alarm, and video surveillance

 

The total cost of the works amounts to €202,465.04, of which €147,900 was co-financed by the GIFTSnet – Network for Green and Inclusive Fortified Tourism Solutions (HR-BA-ME00047) project. The works were carried out by the construction company Gramont Goršić, with subcontractor Obrt Elektrocentar.

 

The Branič Tower is now open to visitors and ready for the new exhibition to be prepared by the Museums of the City of Karlovac.

The GIFTSnet project started on September 15, 2024, and will run until March 14, 2027. The project is led by the Public Institution Fortress of Culture Šibenik, with partners: City of Banja Luka, Municipality of Bar, City of Karlovac, Public Institution Museum of Herzegovina Trebinje and Municipality of Ulcinj.

 

The total value of the project is €2,244,442.80, of which 85% is co-financed by the Interreg IPA Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 program
