Dear participants of the Night of Fortresses 2022!

We are pleased to inform you that the FORTITUDE project, which was carried out by the Šibenik Fortress of Culture Public Institution as the lead, together with partners the City of Karlovac, the City of Banja Luka and the Municipality of Bar, was successfully completed in August of this year. As one of the most successful projects in the financial envelope of the Interreg IPA CBC HR-BA-ME 2014-2020 program, it will be presented at the launch conference of the new program period of this program on December 13 in Zagreb.

Thanks to the activities carried out as part of a project worth more than 1.6 million euros, fortification facilities in three countries were enriched with modern equipment, new tourist tours and facilities were designed, management capacities were strengthened, and the Night of Fortresses was successfully held for the first time. During this two-day event, this spring, thousands of citizens enjoyed free entry and diverse programs at designated locations in more than 40 cities in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro!

The quality and significance of the Night of Fortresses as a cross-border cultural manifestation that connected and promoted programs at 45 fortifications in three countries was recognized by the international associations EFFORTS and FORTE CULTURA – which will promote the Night of Fortresses at the European level as part of the European Fortress Summer event from 2023. ; as confirmed at the final conference of the project in Banja Luka.

We are pleased to add that the importance of the event was also recognized by the Croatian Tourist Board: The Night of Fortresses won the recognition of CTB as a finalist in the event of the year category at this year’s Days of Croatian Tourism. The recognition of CTB as well as successful networking with European associations that bring together fortified cities and localities is proof that the Night of Fortresses enriched the cultural and tourist offer in the pre-season and successfully opened a new type of cooperation between cities and organizations that manage fortified monumental heritage.
